Evony General Power Details: How to Find the Upgrade That Actually Matters

The Power Details screen is a diagnostic tool, not a build recommendation. It separates the sources contributing to a general's current power so you can see where the number comes from. The useful question is not simply “How do I make this number larger?” It is “Which improvement makes this general better at the job I assigned?”

Evony added a Power Details icon to the General page in Version 5.29.0. The official announcement says the icon shows current power details and helps identify ways to improve it. The same update improved the display for General, Equipment, and Dragon power, and added post-upgrade buff details to the Dragon upgrade window. See the official Version 5.29.0 announcement.

How to Open and Read Power Details

  1. Open the General page.
  2. Select the general you want to diagnose.
  3. Tap the Power Details icon.
  4. Record the major contributing categories shown by your current game version.
  5. Return to the general's actual role before choosing an upgrade.

The screen may reveal that a large share of power comes from equipment, a dragon, or the general's own development. That is useful, but the largest category is not automatically the category you should upgrade next.

Use a Role-First Decision Framework

Step 1: Define one primary job

Write down one role: ranged PvP march, mounted monster march, wall defense, subordinate-city duty, gathering, or another specific assignment. A general with an unclear role is easy to overbuild in conflicting directions.

Step 2: Check whether the current sources support that job

If a monster general has impressive total power but equipment and buffs aimed at an unrelated troop type, the number is misleading. If a duty general gains power from portable battle equipment that you intend to move elsewhere, the displayed total may not represent a stable build.

Step 3: Improve the weakest relevant layer

Choose the lowest-cost change that supports the role. That may be upgrading appropriate equipment, developing the correct dragon, improving the general, or fixing a mismatched component. Do not upgrade a category merely because the detail screen makes it visible.

A Concrete Comparison

Suppose General A has higher total power than General B. General A's extra power comes from a strong dragon, but the dragon's useful buffs do not match the march. General B has lower power but role-aligned equipment and development. For the intended battle, General B may be the better choice.

The correct test is performance in the intended activity: compare reports, wounded, damage, or task completion under similar conditions. Power Details tells you where to investigate; reports tell you whether the build works.

Common Mistakes and Diagnosis

  • Chasing the largest total: Diagnose role alignment before adding power.
  • Moving equipment and forgetting the baseline: Reopen Power Details after equipment or dragon changes.
  • Comparing different jobs: A wall general and monster general should not be ranked by one total.
  • Upgrading everything evenly: Concentrated, role-aligned upgrades usually provide clearer results.
  • Ignoring version differences: Update the game if the icon or new detail display is unavailable.

Quick Checklist

  • One primary role is written down.
  • Equipment matches the role.
  • Dragon assignment and buffs match the role.
  • Power Details is checked before and after a change.
  • A comparable report is used to verify improvement.
  • Materials are not spent only to make the headline number rise.

FAQ

Does higher General Power always mean a stronger march?

No. Total power combines several sources and does not prove that their buffs match the march or task.

Where is the Power Details icon?

It is on the General page in versions that include the Version 5.29.0 feature. Update the client if it is missing.

Should I improve the lowest category first?

Only if that category is relevant to the general's primary role and the upgrade offers good value.

How do I confirm an upgrade worked?

Compare similar battle reports or task results before and after the change. Avoid comparing different enemies, buffs, or march compositions.
